Jaipur was founded by King Sawai Jai Singh in 1727. The foundation of the City was laid as per The Principles of Hindu Architectural theory VASTU SHASTRA which is 5000 year old based on Indian astrology. Central to the theme of 9 planets in the Solar System on which the Vedic astrology is based – the city also has 9 blocks which are in turn related to the 9 planets which are linked to the 9 sacred GEMS.
Jaipur was designed as the commercial centre for trade and culture. The best of the talents from across the country were invited by the king in the fields of art, culture, literature and astrology. These people received great patronage from the king both in cash and kind. Trade, craftsmanship, rich business flourished and in short time the City was humming with life and cultural activity prospered rapidly
